Angle Iron to Angle Plates

Thanks for checking out my project.
I made this angle plate set from a piece of scrap 6x6x1 angle iron.
I was looking around the scrap metal pile at work when I found a piece of 6x6x1 angle iron a little over a foot long. I took it in the shop and sawed it into making two pieces 6 in. long. Next I ruff machined them square to 5.125.
I then returned to the scrap pile and found some ½ x 4 bar stock that was at one time a machine brace of some kind. After cleaning it up some I used a vertical band saw to saw it into 4 pieces with a 45 degree angle on each end so I could use them as a gusset.
I used a mig welder to weld the gussets in place leaving an inch overhang to make room for setup clamping. After the wire welding was done I machined them again to 5.030. I left .030 for grind stock.
I figured after all this machining and welding these babies have to have some major stress issues. So before finish grinding them I set out to stress relieve them.
The way I went about this was I put them in the freezer at night and the heat treat oven at about 150 degrees during the day. It took about 4 days of this before they stabilized and stopped changing there shape.
Once I was satisfied they had chilled out and relaxed I went to the surface grinder with them. I ground them both together so I would have a matched set to exact size of 5x5x3/4
After the grinding was done I painted the inside with semi gloss paint
Now I have a very nice set of angle plates with no money invested, just a little time.
The really nice part is I done this project at work when the boss wasn’t around so I got paid to make them.
Thanks again for checking out my project.
