Hi from across the pond, your right, bsp is british standard pipe but interesting to note that over here we use a number of american built small engines Briggs-kohler- tecumseh etc, some of these have threaded exhaust ports and we sometimes cobble up a pipe system using standard black iron pipes, nipples and couplers with 3/4 (i.d.of pipe) bsp threads, guess what, they screw into the port with no problem.hope this is of use.regards union jack

In working for a Japanese Company for 20 years I have become very familiar with BSP. You are correct about there being two types. BSPP is for the straight thread and BSPT is the tapered thread. These are also very similar to the Japanese thread styles of PS and PT. These are not the same as NPS or NPT.

Another thing I saw.
There are two types BSP threads.
A tapered BSP thread and a straight BSP thread
The straight thread is used with a compression joint.

I looked this up in the Machinery Handbook for you and it stands for "British Standard Pipe" looks like you have yourself a pipe thread from across the pond.
