Edge Finding Trick

Q & D Edge Finding

This is a little trick I use sometimes for quick edge finding with the milling cutter when I don't want to spend the time to mount a regular edge finder. It's amazingly quick, easy and accurate.

I simply take a scrap of aluminum and hold it against the vertical edge I want to locate, and with the mill running slowly IN REVERSE, I slowly move the table until I can just feel (and sometimes hear) the cutter hitting the aluminum. Edge found - simple as that.
