fitting a 1/2 I.D. hollow shaft with another hollow shaft

by John Burns
(Port Charlotte Florida)

Hello Iam building a recumbent bike and I am making the rear pivot for the suspension. I am lost when it comes to placing another hollow shaft inside the other to make it firm not loose but still be able to tap the inner shaft out when I need to without it being sloppy. I am not a machinist but I will be trying to buy the hollow shaft on the internet . Pleas Help me . Thank You JOhn

1/2 Tube & Pipe
by: D.Duncan

Hi John,
I have a tip that may help a little. When working with tube and pipe you should know there is a difference. A Tube is measured on the O.D where a pipe is measured on the I.D. So for your outside shaft look for a 1/2 pipe and your inside shaft look for a 1/2 tube.
I hope this was some help.
Donnie
P.S. Another deference is a tube has a weld seam and a pipe don't
