Machinist Slang

I have started a glossary of machinist slang on this page. I don't have it in alphabetical order I just add them as I think of them.

Please use the form at the bottom of this page to submit your favorite slang word and definition to this glossary.

But please keep it clean. We try to be a family orientated site.

Glossary

I killed it:: term used to say I have made a mistake on this part, the part is scrap
It's dead: term us to say a part has been scraped because of a mistake in machining process
Cat Track's: gouges made by a end mill when part comes out of the vise by mistake and the cutter walks across the part.
Winker Dink: a very small nick made by accidentally bumping your cutter into the part causing a small nick in the part
Dust it off: to take a very small amount of material, term used mostly in Surface Grinding
I Screwed the Pooch : the machined feature is non compliant. same as I killed it    Visitor Submitted
Dead Nuts : feature machined to exact dimension no tolerance was used
On The Money : same as Dead Nuts
Cartoon : a drawing or blue print
Slick'um : a lubricant, oil, grease etc. " I need some slick'um on my tap"        Visitor Submitted
Skin-Cut: Taking just the bare minimum of material for surface cleaning or flatness. Visitor Submitted

Number Dead:

did too much math that day and cant do anymore

just kiss it:

same as halo or dust it off

Oinker:

same as winker dink

Beethoven:

person who likes air hose a little too much

Picasso:

person who likes dykem a little too much

Halo:
