Machinist Tool Boxes

I have a few tips on machinist tool boxes to take into consideration if you are thinking of buying your first tool box.

I am not here to push any certain brand of tool box but I am going to push the importance of buying a Machinist Box not a mechanics box.

A machinist box in designed to hold machinist tools

A mechanics box has different heights of drawers.

This causes tool cases to not fit properly leading to wasted space and a cluttered box.

Notice in this photo how theMachinery's Handbook is a perfect fit.

This drawer was designed for this book it even has a thumb hole in the bottom off the drawer to push the book up to get it out.

This is an example of what I was saying about Machinist Tool Boxes are designed for machinist tools and mechanic boxes are not.

Most machinist buy there box one piece at a time.

A full set of boxes consist of 3 pieces. The Top Chest, Center Riser and the  Roll a round

My advise would be to think of the shop you are going to ,be working in. If it’s a large shop consider the roll a round as your first purchase. If the shop is small and you will be staying close buy your box you could go with the top chest first.

The center chest could come much later. It will take some time to feel a chest and roll a round with tools.
