Slo-Mo Diamond Grinder

by Frank Ford
(Palo Alto, CA )

Cranking Up an Edge

Cranking Up an Edge

Whenever I go out into my shop, I have a seemingly endless list of tooling I'd like to make for myself. Many of the tools are things I've read about on various Internet forums (fora?) or in books. Sometimes, it's a tool I dream up myself, like this one - a hand cranked diamond grinder that uses the regular six-inch aluminum wheels.

It took me a couple of years to get "a round tuit," but now that I have, I'm really pleased with the result. I can put the finishing edge on lathe tools and other items with absolute hand control. This photo is of a trial run, honing the ol' whittler.
